This past weekend, me and the Munchkin headed out for another adventure. Up this time, camping at Red Top Mountain with Keeping it Wild and the Fun for Our Kids Meetup Group. This one was a stretch for me. As a child my family went camping often. Yes, we slept in a tent, and yes I loved it. However, as an adult, my version of camping shifted significantly and my version of camping now generally involves a cabin, or a lodge- not a tent. But the hubby has been away on business for a while, and my goal has been to keep the boy distracted while his favorite person is on the road. So camping we went, tent and all, and I must admit, we both had a wonderful time. The campsite was beautiful, and the lake won me over almost immediately. We headed to the Etowah India Mounds and the Booth Western Art Museum while we were there, and we did some fishing as well. The weather cooperated for us and stayed dry, but I believe it was the coldest it’s been and considering that the temperature is now back up in the 80s the 36-65 degree temperature range was a bit of a disappointment. I was glad to have warm sleeping bags and a good campfire and to know the importance of layering like any good New Englander. We cooked all our meals by the campfire and Jackson enjoyed gathering the wood and leaves for our fire. I’ll share more of the group photos later, but for now enjoy me and my mini me’s adventures in camping. When I asked Jackson what he liked best about the weekend he said Bacon, S’Mores and fishing… so there y’a have it. Another successful Team Jax and Mommy adventure. Thanks to Keeping it Wild for a wonderful first time camper experience.
